Thank you to everyone who made the effort to attend the CITE AGM. A special thank you to Jan Campbell, Director of CIS, who addressed the group and to Tena Laing at The Sterling Hall School for hosting the event. We had 19 CIS Ontario schools represented! Attached are the minutes for your review.
We have a great conference planned for Saturday April 20, 2013 at Appleby College. Jennifer Klein, Professional Development Director of the World Leadership School will give the keynote address. In addition, Marina Nemat, author of Prisoner of Tehran, and Vincent Lam, author of Bloodletting and Miraculous Cures, as well as CITE’s own Aggie Maksimowska, author of Giant, will be giving readings from their new works. Please reserve $185 of PD funds for the conference.
Call for Presenters
The CITE 2013 team is looking for creative, diverse presenters to further thinking and influence pedagogy regarding our conference theme Global Perspectives; Individual Voices. The attached poster can be printed for your school’s use. We are seeking presentations of approximately 75 minutes that may focus on the following questions, or suit the conference theme in other unique ways.
· How can global citizenship be fostered in the English classroom?
· How do we encourage our students to find their own voices as part of a global environment?
· How can literature be used as a way to understand the self in the world?
· Can you write on global issues without being ethnocentric?
· Does reading global literature create a false sense of cultural understanding?
· What does Canadian literature mean anymore?
For further information, or to submit your proposal, please contact Maggie Hanrahan at email@example.com. The deadline for submissions is Monday, December 10th, 2012.
InCITE Writing Prompt
Please see the attached poster. Remember that a teacher (rather than the student) must email the entries, and only one submission per grade band is permitted. Students are asked to ensure that the writing is polished and ready to be published when submitted. The deadline is Friday March 1, 2013.
InCITE - Art Submissions Needed
In addition to writing, the InCITE publication also features student artwork (don’t worry about trying to match the art to students’ writing). Photography and art images must be sent to firstname.lastname@example.org by Friday March 1, 2013.
